MIMINKO – A triptych of photographs of the work of the Czech artist David Černý, three bronze sculptures of children with an unusual barcode face, located on Kampa Island in Prague, and portrayed during a snowfall:
BLUE – View and silhouette of the religious buildings, the tower and the statues that adorn Charles Bridge lying on the Vltava in Prague, a beautiful shot taken during the blue hour:
SWAN – Triptych depicting a frozen lake formed on Vltava river near Charles Bridge in Prague. The lake has taken on the appearance of a wonderful, gigantic swan and is populated by ducks, as many swans and birds that use the frozen base as a landing place for fishing:
THE TOWERS – Prague, “the city of a hundred towers”, so nicknamed for its numerous towers with a golden tip that can be seen from many elevated points of the city, allow an exceptional view of the skyline with a Gothic flavor. This photograph with the delicate nuances given by the sunset is an example:
MOLDAVA – The Moldava (Vltava) is the river that flows through the city of Prague. It flows under the Charles Bridge dividing Staré Město, the old town, from Nove Město, the new town. Source of life for the fauna and flora that thrive thanks to it, it is crossed daily by flocks of swans, as in these photographs:
Žižkov TOWER – With its 216 meters of height it is the tallest building in the city. On the construction of the tower were placed 10 giant statues of children, created by the Czech artist David Černý. There are those who hate it, assimilating it to other well-known “architectural monsters” typically built in the 80s of the last century and those who, like me, love it and now consider it an identifying element, an integral part of the city and the district of the same name hill of Žižkov, where I lived. This triptych shows him at his best:
VIEW FROM THE RIVER – Another view of the Charles Bridge and its inhabitants, caught in a moment of refreshment at the end of a heavy snowfall on the bed of the Vltava river:
JOHN LENNON’S WALL – This triptych is a tribute to the great artist, to the values that he himself conveys through this wall and to the city itself which has taken it as a symbol of its intellectual and political freedom.
It seems that a Mexican student was the author of the first graffiti dedicated to John Lennon on what would later become famous as the John Lennon Wall. The famous leader of the Beatles had become a universal symbol of peace and brotherhood in the aftermath of his assassination; his message of hope and freedom had a strong hold on Prague’s youth, who in the 1980s were still living under a suffocating communist regime. Thus began to multiply graffiti, phrases and drawings inspired by the singer and his ideals which were not slow to be noticed, and frowned upon, by the communist regime, according to which they could have a political connotation. A battle of paint was then triggered between the young Praguers, willing to continue painting the wall despite the bans, and the local police who periodically cleaned it up. This is why the wall is so loved by Prague residents. Even today the wall changes continuously, sometimes due to interventions by street artists, more often by the hands of tourists who want to leave a sign of their passage.
